Work Up A Sweat - Fail
I didn't even try to work out today or yesterday. So, yeah. Big fat nothing on that one.
I did, however, work my ass off today. From the moment I sat down at my desk, I was busy and I stayed busy for about seven hours before I got any kind of lull.
Police made arrests in the biggest murder case in Tulsa in recent history, and I got to cover it. It was damned exciting. It is such a rush when the newsroom apparatus gets moving on a big story. So much of my job is copying and pasting what the reporters write in their scripts, so it's a pleasure when I get the chance to be a proper journalist. Granted, I still had to do it all from my cubicle, but that's the power of live streaming.
There was a ton of little bits of spot news on top of it, plus a full load of packages, since everybody is working during sweeps.
I'm not complaining. At my last job, I sat around playing iPhone games after doing the whole day's work in the first fifteen minutes. It was soul-crushing. I longed to be busy, then, so I don't take it for granted.
Busy is good.
But it also triggers this Pavlovian response, where if I have a taxing day I think I deserve a treat. When I got off work, I wanted cake in the worst way. I really, really wanted some fucking cake.
I argued with myself all the way home and then passed my apartment and went straight to Walgreens. They didn't have anything that looked appetizing, cake-wise, so I chose Ben & Jerry's. I wanted Phish Food, but I got Cherry Garcia FroYo. I had some Healthy Choice frozen Greek yogurt at home, but I still felt I needed the B&J. And it was much better than what I had at home. It hit the spot and it felt like an indulgence, and I still managed to stay within my calorie budget, so it wasn't even that big of a deal.
I still want some fucking cake.
In other news, I lost a little over a pound this week. Nothing to write home about, but every pound helps.
I need to work out to accelerate the losing, though.

Back On The Grid
Morning Work Out - Success, Sort Of
I don't even remember what day this goal was for. Friday, I'm assuming. I think I took the dog for a walk on Friday. Maybe not. Ah, no, Friday I took her to the dog park. She did all the running and I just chilled and tossed around a tennis ball.
So, that would be a fail for Friday, but I did walk quite a bit today.
Of course, I did nothing this weekend. And I failed to blog, and I was over my calorie budgets for Saturday and Sunday. So, we're just doing terribly well, aren't we?
I had to work Saturday, for a co-worker who came down with the flu. And I decided Saturday would be my cheat day and went out to dinner with a friend. I also partook of some Cheez Its from the vending machine at work.
I was nearly 100 calories over. Which, let's face it, is still have 1,000 fewer calories than I would normally eat in a day. Not making excuses, just offering perspective.
And then Sunday was Super Bowl Sunday. Not that I watched the Super Bowl.
Nay, nay. On Sunday, I discovered (extremely belatedly) that there's a YouTube app for the Wii. So, now, not only do I have Hulu and Netflix available on the Wii, but I also have YouTube at my disposal.
That meant I could marathon episodes of QI, whilst playing the Sims 3 all day. And boy, did I.
Instead of going grocery shopping and making a meal I could use for leftovers for the rest of the week, and instead of, you know, taking down my Christmas tree or cleaning or anything else that could be considered productive, I stayed in and watched QI and simmed all day. And it was lovely outside, so it really is a shame. But I had a great time.
This morning, though, I got it together somewhat. The only thing that ruined today was that I ordered a pizza last night. I got the healthiest option from Pizza Hut I could imagine, but the problem is I'm not good at controlling portions with pizza. Try as I might, I had half of the large pizza last night and half today. Granted, I spaced it out today and I'm still below my calorie budget, but I feel over-full and bloated, and I hate that. Even worse, I feel guilty.
But, you know, I really shouldn't. I walked Molly for about 30 minutes this morning before work and then I went for a walk around downtown with my co-worker when I got to work, which was about 20 minutes. So, I got in almost an hour of decent exercise. I didn't break a sweat or anything, but when you're as sedentary as I am, you have to allow yourself to feel good about taking a brisk walk.
